EEE (WEEE and ROHS)

The RoHS Directive (Directive 2011/65/EU) was introduced to limit the use of certain hazardous substances such as lead, mercury, cadmium, hexavalent chromium, PBB, and PBDE in electrical and electronic equipment (EEE), promoting the use of alternative materials. It is a key element in ensuring environmental safety and public health. Additionally, RoHS aims to facilitate the effective recycling of EEE at the end of its useful life, thereby supporting the transition to a circular economy. In this regard, RoHS is linked to another directive, WEEE, which specifically governs Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment, promoting its collection, treatment, recycling, and recovery in an environmentally friendly manner.

Our team offers specialized consulting to help organizations understand the specific requirements of these two directives and implement the necessary analyses on production processes. We also support our clients in conducting laboratory analyses and tests to investigate the presence of restricted substances in electrical and electronic components and assist them in understanding and adapting to the resulting limitations on these substances, which are also regulated under REACH. Flashpoint assists companies in achieving regulatory compliance by conducting an integrated analysis of both the RoHS Directive and the REACH Regulation, which often apply to the same article.

We handle the preparation of technical documentation, including the Declaration of Conformity, and provide support for maintaining the required records. We leverage our expertise to assess environmental impacts and substitute materials, helping companies navigate the complex landscape of sustainable materials. We assist regulatory offices in understanding and applying for RoHS exemptions, where the use of restricted substances can be justified by specific technical applications lacking viable alternatives.

We conduct risk assessment audit to verify the compliance of WEEE treatment operations, evaluate potential risks, and identify areas for improvement to avoid sanctions. We also provide logistical support for the proper management of hazardous waste carriage.
